Terms of Use

Meridian Terms of Use

Effective date: September 23, 2026

Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of the Meridian iOS application, the Meridian web app at app.journalmeridian.com, and the Meridian marketing website (collectively, the “Service”), operated by Meridian Digital Labs, Inc. (“Meridian”, “we”, “us”).

By downloading, accessing, or using Meridian, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Meridian. The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly permit use by children under 13.

If you are using Meridian on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

The Service

Meridian is a native iOS journaling application. Core features include:

  • Creating journal entries (typed or via on-device handwriting OCR)
  • Visualizing entries as stars in a personal Night Sky galaxy
  • An optional Stardust economy and cosmetic customization
  • AI features that read your entries, on for every account (see “AI Features” below)
  • Optional Screen Time / app locking — shielding apps you select until you complete a reflection
  • Optional Pro subscription features via the App Store

Meridian is currently distributed via TestFlight and may be in beta. We may add, change, or remove features at any time.

Accounts

Some features require creating an account (email/password, Sign in with Apple, or Google). You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account.

You agree to provide accurate information and to notify us promptly of any unauthorized use. You may delete your account through in-app settings or by contacting contact@journalmeridian.com.

Subscriptions and Payments

Meridian offers an optional Pro subscription tier. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple’s terms and refund policies apply to billing, renewals, and cancellations.

Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID account settings. We do not guarantee specific pricing, features, or availability of Pro benefits.

Your Content

You retain ownership of journal entries and other content you create in Meridian (“Your Content”). By using the Service, you grant Meridian a limited license to process Your Content solely as needed to operate the Service — for example, storing entries locally on your device, performing on-device OCR, or sending entry text to our AI provider to run Meridian’s AI features (see “AI Features” below).

You are solely responsible for Your Content. You agree not to use Meridian to create, store, or share content that is illegal, harmful, harassing, infringing, or that violates others’ rights.

AI Features

Meridian’s AI features are part of the Service and are on for every account. They read your journal entries to find the people, places, threads (ongoing situations), themes and goals in them, to name the chapters of your galaxy, and to produce your Insights, reflection prompts, answers in Ask and AI folder suggestions. They also produce Social insights, from entries you and your friends have shared with each other. Newer versions of the app tell you this in a one-line notice (“Meridian’s AI reads your entries…”) that links to these Terms.

There is no setting in the app to turn AI features off. Earlier versions of the app show an “AI Insights” switch; it no longer stops Meridian’s AI from reading your entries. You can delete individual entries or your whole account at any time, and you can contact contact@journalmeridian.com with any request about how AI is used on your journal. What is sent to our AI provider, what is stored and what is encrypted is described in our Privacy Policy.

Screen Time and App Locking

App locking is an optional accountability feature. You choose which apps to shield and configure lock schedules. Meridian uses Apple’s Family Controls APIs and requires your explicit permission.

Meridian is not responsible for: missed notifications from other apps; unintended blocking or unblocking; behavior of third-party apps; device or OS limitations; or consequences of granting or revoking Screen Time permissions. You can disable app locking at any time in settings.

Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to Meridian systems or other users’ accounts
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or extract source code except where permitted by law
  • Circumvent usage limits, subscription checks, or security measures
  • Scrape, crawl, or use automated means to access the Service without permission
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure

Beta Software

Meridian may be offered as beta or TestFlight software. Beta versions may be unstable, incomplete, or contain bugs. Features may change or be removed without notice. Your feedback helps us improve Meridian, but we are not obligated to implement any suggestion.

Intellectual Property

Meridian, including its name, logo, visual design, Night Sky visualization, and underlying software, is owned by Meridian Digital Labs, Inc. and protected by intellectual property laws. These Terms do not grant you any right to use Meridian branding except as necessary to use the Service.

Disclaimers

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

Meridian is a personal reflection and journaling tool. It is not medical, mental health, or therapeutic advice. If you are in crisis, contact a qualified professional or emergency services in your area.

Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, MERIDIAN AND ITS OPERATOR WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, OR GOODWILL, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.

OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING FROM THESE TERMS OR THE SERVICE WILL NOT EXCEED THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM, OR (B) FIFTY U.S. DOLLARS ($50).

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Meridian and its operator from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your use of the Service, Your Content, or your violation of these Terms.

Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you violate these Terms or if we reasonably believe your use poses risk to Meridian or other users. You may stop using the Service at any time and delete your account.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (including disclaimers, limitation of liability, and indemnification) will survive.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes will be resolved in courts located in the United States, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
